Our Story and Spirit

Rooted in culture, arts, and community service, Pitong Balaraw thrives on preserving heritage and inspiring creativity.

PITONG BALARAW is a non-profit organization rooted in creativity, culture, and community service. Founded in 1996 by a passionate group of young individuals in Dolores, Quezon, the organization began as a theater group under the guidance of the Parish and National Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows. What started as a shared love for performing arts quickly grew into a meaningful platform for youth expression and community involvement.

In its early years, PITONG BALARAW focused on developing theatrical talent through internal acting workshops and staging various plays. The group became widely recognized for its immersive and creative “Horror Booth” during Halloween—an event that showcased both artistic skill and community engagement.

As the organization evolved, so did its mission. PITONG BALARAW expanded beyond theater to embrace a broader role in community development and cultural preservation. Since 1997, the group has played a key role in the annual Hambujan Festival, taking pride in designing and building the grand stage for the prestigious Mutya ng Dolores and leading the festival’s opening rituals—an enduring symbol of tradition and unity.

Today, PITONG BALARAW is guided by three core pillars:

Arts

We nurture creativity by exposing our youth members to the seven forms of art—painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music, performing arts, and cinema. Through workshops and activities, we help them discover and develop their talents.

Culture

We actively participate in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Dolores, ensuring that traditions are passed on to future generations.

Service

We are committed to serving our community through outreach programs, volunteer work, and initiatives that contribute to the growth and well-being of the municipality of Dolores.
